Basic principles
We proudly present a DNS server that focuses on privacy and data protection. We rely on clear principles to ensure the security and confidentiality of user information.
Our principles are diverse and include the highest priority for data protection, extremely minimalist data collection, consistent anonymization and encryption of data, transparent data protection policies and commitment to open source principles.
To maximize data protection, we pursue an approach without any collection of log files. We obtain our information directly from the root servers, which makes us independent, but can potentially lead to longer response times compared to large resolvers. As our server is used more and more, a growing cache and thus shorter latency times balance this out.
You can reach our DNS server at IPv4 202.61.197.122 und IPv6 2a03:4000:59:ef::1
As a proud part of the OpenNIC project, we support DNS over TLS (DoT) via dns.furrydns.de and DNS over HTTPS (DoH) via https://dns.furrydns.de/dns-query.
Join our thriving furry community and enjoy not only secure digital interaction, but also a DNS service that respects and protects your privacy.
Technology
Our open-source DNS resolver represents an advanced technology built on transparency, security and flexibility. The central element is the resolver, which is responsible for resolving DNS requests by converting requested domain names into IP addresses.
The open-source nature of our resolver allows the community to view, review and improve the source code. This openness promotes transparency and independent auditability, while an active community drives continuous improvements and security updates.
Our implementation of DNS over TLS (DoT) ensures that communication between the resolver and the user’s end device is encrypted. This provides an additional layer of security by protecting DNS requests from possible eavesdropping attempts.
In addition, we support DNS over HTTPS (DoH), which encrypts DNS requests and responses in HTTPS traffic. This further increases security and makes DNS activity more difficult for third parties to detect.
Our resolver implements authentication and confidentiality to ensure that transmitted information is trustworthy and not tampered with. An efficient caching mechanism reduces latency by storing already resolved DNS records for a certain period of time.
As part of the OpenNIC project, our resolver can also resolve addresses in the OpenNIC address space. In addition, we support the ideological interests of the project.
As a decentralized DNS network, OpenNIC enables free participation in the management of domain names. Here, community members make decisions about policies and standards. With a clear focus on privacy, security and openness, OpenNIC is shaping an Internet landscape that is created by and for users.
Overall, our open-source DNS resolver stands for reliable DNS resolution that protects user privacy while providing a secure and transparent DNS infrastructure.
We use the open source solution Bind9. Feel free to support them on your GithubSeite
